SPAIN has been ranked as the most popular holiday destination to travel to in 2021. A survey quizzed thousands of Britons on their holiday plans for next year. Where else is on the bucket list?

Holidays have been a write-off for most of 2020, so many are hoping 2021 heralds better times. So where will be Britons be jetting off to? According to new research, Spain is the number one holiday destination among UK residents.

A survey of more than 25,000 people by digital pollsters Findoutnow.co.uk found that Britons are already planning a foreign trip.

They asked participants: “If you do go on holiday, where are you most likely to go?”

Spain topped the list. Eighteen percent of those surveyed are keen to jet off to Spanish shores.

In second place for the most favoured 2021 destination was Greece.

Among those quizzed, 7.46 percent were keen for a Greek jaunt. France came in third place, with 6.16 percent voting for a trip across the Channel.

Winter sun hotspot the Canary Islands was in fourth place, with 5.56 percent of those surveyed after a break in the Spanish archipelago.

Other countries in the list for 2021 getaways were Italy, Turkey, Portugal, Cyrpus and Mexico.

Find Out Now also asked survey participants: “In light of recent vaccine news, how likely are you to go on holiday abroad next year?”

Twenty percent of people said it was “very likely” they would travel in 2021. Meanwhile, 23 percent said “somewhat likely,” giving a combined “likely” of 43 percent.

The survey showed that young people are more inclined to holiday than older folk. Twenty-three percent of those aged between 18 and 24 said they were “very likely” to go away.

However, of those 65 and over, only 16 percent were keen on a foreign holiday. The covid vaccine rollout is set to boost travel confidence enormously.

In response to news the Oxford coronavirus vaccine was approved today, Emma Coulthurst from holiday price comparison site, TravelSupermarket, said: “The vaccine news today is likely to have a positive impact on package holiday price comparison searches and bookings via TravelSupermarket.

“When the news of the Pfizer vaccine hit last month, price comparison searches surged by more than 54 percent week on week.

“There will be an increase in people searching for holidays on the back of today’s news. People are desperate to escape as soon as the virus and the world allows them to do so. But searches translating to bookings is likely to continue to be highest for June and July next year when people are hoping that the world will be different.

“The likes of Corfu, Crete, Turkey (Bodrum, Antalya etc), Majorca and the Spanish Costas continue to be some of the most popular searches for next summer with people wishing to return to their favourite destinations.”

Cheaper than the Pfizer drug, the UK has an initial order of 100 million doses of the Oxford vaccine. It will begin its rollout on January 4 in a vital boost for Boris Johnson as the new strain of the virus spreads rapidly across the country.
